IRL Products

Yes, yes and yes! We took great care to perfect our formulas and deliver a set of non-toxic, vegan products that deliver a buttery, vibrant, buildable pigment payoff. And of course, we don’t test on animals or work with suppliers who do. Because you shouldn’t have to compromise any of your values just to get a great beauty product.

We’ve got the cure for buyer’s remorse in our Virtual Try On feature that's COMING SOON. If you’re curious how a particular shade in our Micro Palm Palettes™ will look on you, then all you need to try it on is a smart phone! You can try on every color in each palette before you buy it and even try on some custom looks created by Jo Baker exclusively for BAKEUP!

First of all, take a deep breath and relax. Let go of all the traditional rules about how “best” to apply color - or even where to apply it. As our co-founder Jo Baker says: “Makeup doesn’t have to be perfect, even or symmetrical. You don't have to have fine skills to use BAKEUP.” We recommend applying these high performance artistry pigments over your favorite eye shadow primer. Use brush or simply just use your fingertips and apply them wherever you want a pop of color. Don’t be afraid to go above the eyebrows, down your cheeks or below your eyes!

Try a simple sparkle in the corner of your eye, a prismatic beauty spot, or even a fake piercing! You can pair them with a complimentary or even color-clashing pigment. Apply them on your face, ears or even nails - there's no right or wrong way to adorn! Here's a tip: for extra stick or reuse of gems, start with your favorite lash glue.

The use of color additives in any products, even cosmetics, is subject to country specific regulations. The color additives in pressed pigments are approved for use elsewhere on the face and body, but not intended for use in the eye area according to US regulation.

We use a simple numbering system on our product packaging to denote which colors are eyeshadows and which are pressed pigments. You can also find that diagram on each product page as an easy reference.

See the FAQ above for the technical difference between eyeshadows and pressed pigments. Throughout her career as a makeup artist, our co-Founder Jo Baker has had to mix and match so many different palettes together to get the exact set of vibrant, high-frequency colors she wants. For BAKEUP, Jo wanted to create the palettes she’d always dreamed of, with the exact pastel, primary and neon hues she wanted all in their own compact palettes.

As to why we used pressed pigments for some of the shades in our Micro Palm Palettes, it was all about the vibrancy and color payoff. Many bright neon or vibrant primary colors are not achievable without using colorants that aren’t approved for use in the eye area. We chose to create our palettes with a mix of eyeshadows and pressed pigments since Jo’s artistic vision includes using her clients’ entire face as a canvas of self-expression, and she loves using bold colors to tell a story.

Another objective Jo wanted to achieve was vegan, cruelty-free cosmetics without “the nasties” like talc, polyacrylamide and paraffin. In order to accomplish this we had to ditch using carmine, the approved natural color additive used to create some shades like reds, pinks, and purples, as it is created from crushed beetles, so we chose to formulate some shades in our palettes with pressed pigments.

Multiverse Beauty

Mul•ti•verse (noun): a theoretical reality that includes a possibly infinite number of parallel universes.

At BAKEUP we live and play in the beauty multiverse, where beauty can be anything you want it to be. Whether it’s creating looks in front of your mirror, experimenting with our augmented reality #feelgoodfilters on social media, or discovering digital closets in DressX or virtual worlds like Zepeto, BAKEUP meets you where you are on your journey of self-expression. We aim to equip you with all the tools and resources you need to express yourself creatively.

We're all about making social media a more positive, uplifting space. We're creating AR filters for socials like Instagram that let you play, pretend and express yourself. Find our Disco Veiler™ #feelgoodfilter on Instagram from your mobile device, here.

DressX is a sustainability focused, digital-only fashion marketplace and AR App. Items can be purchased through traditional e-commerce or as an NFT.

We recently launched our new Cosmic Veiler with DressX.

When you purchase an item, you get an AR filter version in your in-app Meta-Closet and have the option to upload a photo of yourself for DressX to prepare a high-res editorial photo of your digital look to share on socials, etc.

Zepeto is an avatar-centric social universe where anyone can connect and create without limits. This community platform is powered by millions of creators in ZEPETO Studio.

Join us in our BAKEUP Playscape World and customize your avatar with any of our exclusive BAKEUP items. We’d love to see what you create in Zepeto, so if you share to social, be sure you use #BAKEUPxZEPETO .

In 2022, BAKEUP joined forces with Tafi/Daz 3D, creators of the Non-Fungible People (NFP) NFT collection, which features powerful, self-expressive women and non-binary avatars in a hyper-real artistic style, to create digital makeup looks that can be worn, collected, traded, and sold in the metaverse. BAKEUP's first digital offering was a Disco Veiler NFT made excusively for the NFP community. You can learn more about the NFP collection by clicking here.
